Antenna is looking for a Director for our Washington, D.C. Public Affairs practice to lead the development, coordination and execution of integrated public affairs activities on behalf of clients. The Account Director will build close and effective relationships, including substantive partnerships, with important policymakers and opinion leaders, attracting wide reaching support for policies favorable to our clients’ business.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Account Strategy and Management: 

  • Lead strategy development and creation of plans for successful client programs
  • Facilitate and lead the policy outreach development process, including brainstorms; encourage teammates to identify fresh approaches to client programs 
  • Advise on roles and responsibilities across account teams
  • Ensure seamless coordination, communication and project management between cross-functional teams in public affairs, public relations, digital marketing, graphic design, web development, and marketing automation.
  • Manage projects to ensure on-time delivery of high-quality work for all clients

Client Relations:

  • Serve as the primary policy outreach point of contact across multiple accounts
  • Lead client strategy meetings and status calls
  • Supervise junior staff to ensure maintenance of internal and client-facing dashboards 

Policy Influencer Outreach:

  • Proactively develop relationships with federal, state and local government leaders to establish clients as an influential voice
  • Develop stakeholder maps, build relationship development plans and expand existing stakeholder relationships important to our clients
  • Monitor policy developments making sure our clients engage early to maximize their impact on policies affecting their business. Horizon scan, together with clients and Antenna Public Affairs team, to anticipate issues that may impact our clients’ business and to inform our public affairs approach
  • Analyze the effectiveness of our clients' influencer engagement to help inform current and future engagement strategies
  • Obtain and organize thought-leadership speaking engagements for senior client spokespeople which will help deliver on Antenna’s public affairs strategy
  • Arrange meetings with policy influencers and prepare clients for the meetings, ensuring they are well briefed

Business Development: 

  • Identify and engage with potential client organizations
  • Attend networking events and industry conferences on behalf of the agency
  • Develop and present excellent communications proposals

Ant Management and Mentorship:

  • Work with junior staff to develop and strengthen skills and understanding of clients’ industries
  • Lead and participate in agency team building activities
  • Effectively “manage up” to VPs

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of direct government relations and/or public affairs experience
  • Experience working across all levels of government, with an emphasis on state-level policies and regulations. 
  • Interest in and knowledge of the cleantech, energy, mobility, sustainability policies and markets
  • Ability to think strategically and connect client goals/objectives with public affairs program approaches 
  • Self-motivated, proactive and flexible 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong writing, editing and communication skills
