Antenna is looking for a Media Strategist for our Cleantech/Mobility practice to provide support with media strategy, media relations, and other areas to our account teams. This role will be temporarily remote due to COVID-19 and thereafter can be based in either our San Francisco, New York, New Jersey or Chicago offices. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Media and Analyst Relations:

  • Report to and work closely with the Director of Media Relations to identify media relations needs and prioritize activities on an ongoing basis
  • Provide media relations support–setting strategy, developing pitches and performing media outreach–to account teams on an as-needed basis
  • Support the planning and execution of major announcement campaigns 
  • Develop and oversee execution of media strategy for select accounts, including proactive and reactive opportunities
  • Conduct media outreach via phone, email and other platforms and regularly secure coverage in top-tier and trade media
  • Strengthen relationships with key media contacts, focusing on top-tier print, online and broadcast media and trade media
  • Leverage media relationships to proactively identify earned media opportunities across Antenna’s cleantech and mobility client roster 
  • Support junior staff in developing relationships with reporters in trade, regional and national media
  • Edit and finalize written pitches; advise on phone pitching 
  • Edit and finalize media lists; advise junior staff on media list building best practices
  • Set goals for media coverage for junior staff and help them meet those goals

Client Relations:

  • Work directly with clients to develop media strategy and advise on ongoing media relations
  • Lead coordination and preparation for media briefings with client spokespersons; deliver post-briefing feedback and report media results 
  • Help develop and take part in media training sessions with client spokespersons 
  • Liaise with the creative and digital teams to develop content and marketing campaigns that support or proceed in parallel to media campaigns 

Ant Management and Mentorship:

  • Manage and assign Media Specialist(s) to specific accounts/projects in collaboration with the Director of Media Relations 
  • Work with junior staff to develop and strengthen media relations skills and understanding of the media landscape

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or related area 

  • Experience working with B2B companies/organizations in energy, sustainability, environment, transportation, circular economy or similar
  • 4+ years of direct public relations experience or related areas that include media relations
  • Interest in and basic knowledge of clean energy/sustainability technologies, climate mitigation/adaptation technologies, smart cities, and/or advanced mobility
  • Ability to think strategically and connect client goals/objectives with media relations strategies and tactics
  • Existing relationships with reporters, editors and/or industry analysts covering cleantech/climate tech, advanced mobility, sustainability, technology and business
  • Self-motivated, proactive and flexible 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong writing, editing and communication skills
